FAQ -- Group Dental
What types of Dental Plans are available to employers with less than 10 employees?
Dental insurance plans offered to the small employer vary by carrier. For more information, contact us.
How many employees must participate in the group dental plan?
If the employer offers a contributory plan, based upon the employer sharing in the cost of the premium, the minimum employee participation is 75%. If the employer offers a non-contributory plan, based upon the employer covering the full cost of the premium, the carriers require 100% participation.
What factors do the carriers use to calculate insurance premiums?
The carriers may use demographic information (location of the group), age of employees, and gender. For larger employer groups, claims experience may also used to calculate premium rates. For more information, contact us.
What are the minimum number of hours an employee must work to be eligible for dental insurance benefits?
An employer may use the 30 hour standard for determining eligibility for a dental benefit plan; however, other hourly standards may be applied with carrier approval. For more information, contact us.
Are employers required to offer dental insurance benefits to all of their employees?
No. However, the factors determining which employees will be offered coverage must be based on classes of employees (i.e., management, hourly, salary, length of service, etc).
What types of dental plans are available to the small and large employer?
Dental plans offered vary from carrier to carrier. Plans available include:
- Network Only Plans (DHMO) - which require the use of a participating dentist.
- Participating Provider Organization (PPO) - allow the insured member to use either a participating network dentist or a non-participating (non-network) dentist.
- Indemnity Plan - allow the insured member to use the dentist of their choice.
Participating dentists agree to provide services at contracted rates; therefore the use of a network participating dentist may result in lower out-of-pocket costs for the insured member. For more information, contact us.
Are Orthodontic benefits included in dental plan?
Depending on the size of the group, carriers may offer orthodontic benefit as an additional option. For more information, contact us.
